Sir Elton Hercules John

 Sir Elton Hercules John was educated in the Royal Academy, thanks to a scholarship that obtained in this institution at the age of 11 years that left six years later to dedicate itself to pop music. As of 1964 he began to collaborate with local groups like Bluesology, where John Baldry knew the singer. As tribute to him and the saxophonist Elton Dean adopted the stage name of Elton John

 

In the 60s he participated in several groups, but without too much success. Until in 1967 Sir Elton John knew the lyricist and poet Bernie Taupin. Together they achieved his first great success in 1970 with the album "Elton John" by the song "Your Song". In 1971 four albums between the ten first of the lists of the United States were placed simultaneously, something that did not happen since the Beatles. Also, in that same year Elton began to develop alopecia that would lead him to use wigs in his later years.

 

The 70s were the one of Sir Elton John’s consecration as an authentic star, began to act adorned with outlandish disguises and other adornments characteristic of glam rock in a multitude of concerts. At that time, he found great success with songs like Crocodile Rock (1972), Candle In The Wind (1973) Bennie And The Jets (1973) and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (1974). Between 1972 and 1975, seven of his discs entered the first positions of the list of British sales.

 

In 1975 Sir Elton John participated in the film “Tommy”, directed by Ken Russell and written by Pete Townshend, guitarist of The Who. By that time, the public opinion became scandalized by certain declarations of his homosexuality.

 

When entering the decade of the 1980s, Sir Elton John already produced new successes like "I’m Still Standing" and “Little Jeannie” but his private life encountered some problems. The 14 of February of 1984 Sir Elton John marries recording engineer Renate Bauer.

 

In 1985 July, Elton John participated in the concert Live Aid made in the Wembley Stage of London alongside David Bowie, Sting, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Queen, among others.

 

In 1990 Sir Elton John deeply affected by the death of friend Ryan White. After the funeral he confirmed to be in treatment to surpass his addiction to alcohol, drugs and bulimia. In 1992 he founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation, one of the greater organizations for the eradication of AIDS.

 

Sir Elton John already renewed and more sober achieved a new success in 1994 with his participation in the sound track of Lion King in collaboration with Tim Rice which won a Grammy and an Oscar.

 

The murder of Sir Elton John’s friend Gianni Versace and the death in a traffic accident of his friend Diana, Princess of Wales, reportedly was for Elton a strong blow in 1997. He achieved success with his tribute to princess Diana, with the “Candle in the Wind”, that broke records and turned out to be the most sold single in the history of music.

 

In 2001 he recorded once again with his head lyricist Bernie Taupin “Songs from the West Coast” followed in the 2004 by album number 43 named Peachtree Road. In December 2014, Elton John married his partner of 12 years, the Canadian film director David Furnish, once the same-sex marriage act was passed by the UK Parliament.
